THe Coats

The Coats Holiday show, a sell-out favorite at Benaroya Hall in Seattle every year, makes a special appearance at the PAC to kick off the holiday season. Three additional musicians join the vocal quartet for this lively, interactive show geared towards the whole family. In the lineup of tunes, along with “The Little Drummer Boy” and “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” is original material by the Coats’ songwriter-arranger Jamie Dieveney. Doug Wisness, a fellow singer, and the group’s manager, points to Dieveney’s song “The Holiday Way,” with its West African feel, as an example of the fresh and unexpected flavor the Coats can bring to a performance.
“Jamie has a great knack for getting a good hook,” says Wisness, who also cites Dieveney’s skill with crafting new arrangements of familiar songs. “We can take a pop, country or jazz song, do it a cappella and make it sound new.”
Nationally touring artists, The Coats are the Pacific Northwest's premiere a cappella band. They have performed for MDA benefits, the Susan G. Komen foundation, high schools, colleges, fairs, and community centers across the country, the President of the United States, and have shared the stage with dozens of acts as vastly different as Gallagher, The Beach Boys, Jay Leno, Trisha Yearwood, and Eddie Money.
In a career spanning almost two decades, The Coats have also performed for hundreds of corporate clients, including Starbucks, Microsoft, Pemco, Safeco, Bon Macy's, Nordstroms, The Mariners, the Seattle Supersonics, Sonicare, EDS, the Concours Group, CSC, Barrick Mining, Music Educators Northwest, the Washington Dental Association, Washington Lottery, and the Washington State Patrol, just to name a few.
Their intensely arranged yet hilarious, interactive performance blends music and comedy so seemlessly that there is no event, stage, or function of any size that theydon't leave stunned and wondering, "how did all of that come out of only four guys?!" And you'll be smiling and humming all the way home, just in time for the holidays!
